The Grammy nominations were announced yesterday. The show will telecast on February 8, 2008. If they do not have many great artists to come and save the show it is destined to be a flop. I say this because many great artists have been ignored and snubbed once again. Why on earth is Ne-Yo nominated for album of the year? Hello! He has only been around for two years and I didn’t know who he was until he recorded a song with NKOTB. I have heard of him but always changed the radio station when his songs came on. In other words, I am not a fan and don’t feel he deserved this recognition. Bad choice.

Ne-Yo’s album Year of the Gentleman is nominated for album of the year along with other ridiculous choices. Robert Plant who I haven’t heard anything about in years releases and album and gets recognized for still being alive. His album is entitled “Raising Sand.” Lil’ Wayne is also nominated in the same category for “The Carter III” and Cold Play for “Viva La Vida”. I think Coldplay has this hands down or maybe they will feel sorry for ignoring Robert Plant for all of the years that he was good.

Coldplay got six nominations which I can’t argue too much about. I am not a fan of Coldplay but they have been ignored a lot by the Grammy’s until this year. They are also nominated for best due or group and for record and song of the year.

The category that pisses me off the most is the Best New Artist. Adele, Duffy, Jazmine Sullivan, Lady Antebellium, and the Jonas Brothers are all nominated. First of all, the Jonas Brothers have been around for several years and this year released their third album. How does that allow them to be new? Then why not nominate Leona Lewis and Jordin Sparks? Katy Perry should also be acknowledged. I recall back in the 80’s when Whitney Houston was overlooked as best new artist since she sang back-up vocals on a gospel album. I never heard of Adele, Duffy, or Jazmine Sullivan or even Lady Antebellium. Oh well, once again the Grammy’s don’t acknowledge those that really deserve recognition.

Leona Lewis is nominated for record of the year for “Bleeding Love” but not for Best Female pop Vocal. Hmmm. Pink was actually nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal rather than best album of the year or song of the year or record of the year or any other catagory. Very frustrating. Pink is one of the great artists of our time and is being snubbed.

Katy Perry only got one nod for Best Female Pop Vocal for “I Kissed a Girl”. What’s up with that? Her “HotnCold” song is better and played more frequently on the radio. She is definitely different than any other entertainer we have today and needs to be acknowledged for her contribution. The most annoying song out there is “Love Song” by Sara Bareilles and she is given a nomination for it. Ok, if she wins I am going to vomit. I hate that song and have been wondering who is singing it so I would make sure never to buy her music ever.

One of my favorite artists of all time is Paul McCartney and actually got two nominations. Anything they give him he deserves. For soooo many years they have snubbed Paul and I would love to see him get a few awards.

Maroon 5, Daughtry, Rihanna, and Madonna all should be nominated much more than they are. Rihanna is nominated for small awards and nothing big. She has had the most singles released off of one album in years and she is being pushed aside like it was nothing. Daughtry had a few songs out this year and need to be awarded for their great work. Maroon 5 is nominated for best duo or group but nothing else. Madonna put out a cd and maybe this year would be good to give her some grammy’s that she never got in the past. Since the Jonas Brothers were nominated why wasn’t Miley Cyrus and country stars Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood nominated? What’s up with that? That is my saying for this year’s Grammy’s. What is up with that???? Mariah Carey is also snubbed. What frustrates me the most is as these artists get older and don’t receive awards they should have they will decide to give them a lifetime achievement award or throw a few awards at them when they put out an album no matter how bad it sucked simply because they are still alive and kicking. It will be sympathy awards at this point and an I’m sorry we didn’t give it to you when you really deserved it.
