New Version of Prom Night Was a Forgettable Movie
Prom Night was recently released on dvd and is a re-make of the 80’s version starring Jamie Lee Curtis. The original is without a doubt one hundred percent better than the re-make. I fast forward through most of the movie hoping something would improve, but the girls still whined and the guys acted like chumps. Whimpy guys trying to act tough and suave doesn’t work. The wrong people in the wrong roles.
The new version of Prom Night began the film showing Brittany Snow (the main character) come home unexpectantly to find her brother and father dead and as she goes to her room she hears screaming from her mother arguing with a man. She runs under her bed without being seen. Suddenly the mother and killer come crashing out into the hall and into her room. Her mother gets thrown on the floor as the killer demands to know where she is. The she he is referring to is Brittany. Apparently the killer worked for a school and became obsessed with Brittany when she took one of his classes. Her mother claimed she didn’t know where she was and then looked to see her daughter was under the bed. Suddenly the mother dies as the killer stabs her to death. Ok, would you stay under the bed as your mother is being stabbed to death? I wouldn’t. I want to get up and kick the killer’s ass! You can’t go down without a fight. The girl is the only survival. Not right and not fair. Terrible beginning to a terrible movie. They should’ve killed Brittany off in the beginning of the movie so we wouldn’t have to sit through such a ridiculous film.
The acting was horrendous, but the best acting came from the killer played by Johnathon Schaech and the detective Ibris Elba. The plot really had nothing to do with the original other than the fact it was based around the Prom. The original created characters you liked and disliked. The new version created characters you simply hated. There was no suspicion and there absolutely care for anybody involved. I hated the film plain and simple. DO NOT waste your time seeing the new version of Prom Night but if you have a chance check out the original which may seem a little cheesy to newer audiences but there was a good story and a purpose behind the killings.
