The Invasion Is Better Than the Original

Nicole Kidman stars in the Invasion which is a re-make of the 70’s classic Invasion of the Body Snatchers. I didn’t expect much from this film especially since it didn’t fare very well in theatres. I was curious though. I was pleasantly surprised with the result.

The Invasion was changed a little. Instead of pods and a different body all together, the newer version decided to use green vomit that infected the same body. This was a very interesting twist. I thought it was cleverly thought up. Essentially, what happens is a US shuttle crashes with its remains spreading across the United States. From there, anyone that touches pieces from the crash gets infected. Once they fall asleep they change. From there, they continue to spread the infection by vomiting green gew into drinks or spit right into the person’s face. That can be rather nasty but not expected. Once the person falls asleep then they become suddenly different.

Another twist they used in the updated version is that some people were immuned to the “virus”. Some people in the medical field were secretly trying to find a cure for the disease in order to prevent further infection. The ending to the Invasion is completely different and I appreciate the turn of events. I thought there was plenty of action from beginning to end and I found myself routing for a good ending. It has become rather disappointing in recent years when a scary movie comes out since the characters and plot are just horrible. You hope for everyone to die at the beginning ’cause they are so annoying. It is nice to finally see a good scary movie.

The Invasion is definitely worth seeing. The acting and directing was great. They took a big risk redoing a classic but with such a good script it is almost impossible to go wrong. The Invasion is available on dvd.
