Olympic Gymnastic Judging Continues to Discriminate

I continue to go over this subject but it is really aggravating to me. The women’s gymnastics judging during the Olympics has been rarely fair and mostly unfair. Gymnasts continue to fall and get high marks and if one girl that is really good falters a little or does a perfect routine will still not be rewarded for her work since they are too busy praising someone that fell.

A korean gymnast vaulted. She went out of bounds twice. She barely landed twice. They gave her the gold medal. I don’t get it. Alicia Sacramone landed two vaults that had a hop. She didn’t medal at all. Again, she lost to a Korean gymnast that went out of bounds not once, but twice. Of course the Chinese made sure one of their gymnasts landed in the top three EVEN though she fell on one of the vaults. Not kidding. The girl fell on her second vault by landing on her knee. They immediately scored her higher than Sacramone using the excuse that her first vault was so spectacular (she landed and hopped just like Sacramone) that she deserved to be in first.

Floor exercise was more fair, but only because the Chinese girls faultered too much and it would be really too obvious that the judges have been favoring them. The floor went well with several gymnasts actually getting scores that they deserved. American’s Luikin and Johnson placed second and third while a girl from Romania got the gold. They all did extremely well and I am so glad they got what they deserve.

Next is the parallel bars that hasn’t aired on television yet. I heard Luikin took second since the rule is that there can’t be two gold medal winners. OF COURSE the Chinese awarded themselves another gold since there was a tie between one of the underage Chinese gymnasts and Luikin. I will admit the Chinese girls are very good but they are human and make mistakes just like everyone else. The girls that do a good job need to be rewarded for doing so and those that continue to make mistakes shouldn’t be rewarded because they are a citizen of the host country. I find myself routing for Romania and Russia to win as long as it isn’t China. Sad, but true. These judges have really ruined gymnastics for me for this Olympics. They are unfair in too many of their scorings and judging that it saddens me to see a great gymnast such as Sacramone not receive a medal of her own that she really does deserve. It bothers me that Johnson didn’t win all around since the judges didn’t give her a score that she deserved on the balance beam by scoring one of the Chinese girls better who had more mistakes. It bothers me that something so blatant as being under age goes without too much discussion and eventually these Chinese girls that won all of these medals will have to give back everything they got after everything is said and done. You know that is what is going to happen in a couple years. The truth will be let out and the heart ache that such gymnasts as Sacramone went through would have been completely unnecessary. The gymnasts that deserved it to begin with will be given an award that she couldn’t accept in the Olympic arena due to a corrupt decision by a corrupt country.
