Summer Movie Prediction of Hits and Misses
After the releases of Iron Man, the Chronicles of Narnia, and Indiana Jones this summer is proving to be one to look forward to. There are many new movies coming to theatres that are either sequels, television series brought to the big screen, or bright new ideas.
Movies to look forward to:
1. The X Files: I want to Believe starring the original cast David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. The series is a classic and the first film was a hit. This sequel is planned to be a blockbuster. It will be released in theatres on July 3rd.
2. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor is the third film in the Mummy series. Jet Li will star alongside Brendan Fraser giving many more effects than the audience may be expecting. I enjoyed the first two Mummy movies and I am looking forward to see what kind of ride they are going to put us on this time. The release date is set for August 1st.
3. Step-Brothers stars Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly. This comedy brings these two actors together again for the third time. They always deliver laughs and I look forward to expecting the unexpected. It will be released on July 25th.
4. Wanted stars Angelina Jolie. I am real curious about this action film. It is based from a comic book and Jolie portrays a superhero. Its planned released date is June 27th.
Movies to beware of:
1. Get Smart stars Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway. Carell is not very funny in leading roles and does best when he is cast as a supporting actor. He tends to push too hard to be funny and isn’t natural at it. Hathaway has a more natural comedic side to her that can work in the role as agent 99. Too bad they couldn’t find someone else to play Maxwell Smart.
2. The Love Guru stars Mike Myers and Jessica Alba. After seeing the previews to this film I can’t say that it is original work from Myers. It seems as though he is portraying Austin Powers with a long beard and funky hair. It all seems a bit over done. Alba is basically placed to be cuuuuute as usual which is also very old.
Movies that can be a Hit or Miss:
1. The Incredible Hulk starring one of the most under-rated actors in Hollywood, Edward Norton. He is taking on the lead role and he may be able to make this one work. The first movie wasn’t as good as it could have been. The comic book character is not always easy to bring to the big screen though they managed to be effective with the television series.
2. Sex and the City: the movie stars Sarah Jessica Parker along with her three best friends. The television series ended several years ago and now it is making an attempt to bring new life on the big screen. It looks interesting and if you were a fan of the show you may enjoy the film, but with the women are looking so much older and skinnier that it may be hard to believe that they are the same women.
3. Tropic Thunder stars Ben Stiller and Jack Black. I believe Robert Downey Jr. also has a part in this film though it isn’t highlighted or talked about much. He is bound to give the movie a great boost in comedy. Not too many people realize how funny Downey can be and along with Norton he is one of the most under-rated actors as well.
4. Hancock stars Will Smith and Charlize Theron. These two actors together in a film should work, but the storyline seems a little strange. Smith portrays a man with super human strength that in a twist of fate begins doing the right thing for people, but he seems to be a very unlikable person. I don’t know how this will fare at all.
5. You Don’t’ Mess with Zohan stars Adam Sandler and Rob Schneider. Sandler portrays one of the greatest agents who chooses to become a hairdresser instead after becoming tired of all of the violence. It seems a bit silly to me but I found myself laughing at the previews.
